Mother's Help


A Mother's help is a domestic assistant aged 18 – 45 who has some formal training in childcare (usually undergoing childcare vocational courses). A mother’s help is a carer who has got a genuine interest in children, who works under supervision on the daily running of the household. Duties regarding children are accorded to their experience, the type of household and the ages of the children, a Mother's help is an extra hand rather than someone who takes charge. Depending on the childcare responsibilities expected, they will be able to help around the house with light housework and run errands. If they are experienced and confident enough, they can take sole charge of the children at times.
 
Unlike most Nannies, Mothers’ helps will normally do some light housework (dusting, hoovering etc). It is useful to know that a Mother's help standard responsibilities typically include:
  • Taking children to and from school or nursery
  • Caring for and engaging in activities with the children
  • Ensuring that the children enjoy a well balanced diet
  • Changing and bathing the children
  • Undertaking to do the children’s laundry
  • Daily general tidy up in the rooms used by the children
  • Cleaning of toys
A Mother's help list of tasks may also include:
  • General laundry
  • Ironing
  • Tidying up
